An accident in Kent sent a 3-year-old boy to the hospital with serious injuries, local news outlets report. According to the authorities, the weather as well as speed contributed to the crash.
No other vehicles were involved.
The Washington State Patrol reported that a 31-year-old man from Seattle was behind the wheel of a 2010 Nissan Sentra while traveling southbound on Interstate 5 when he lost control of the vehicle.
As the Nissan Sentra drifted to the right due to the wet, slippery pavement, it crashed into a sign, rolling on its side and striking a tree. The vehicle ended up resting on its top about 30 feet off the roadway.
The 3-year-old boy was a passenger in the vehicle. He had his seat belt on. WSP officials said the child was sent to the hospital with serious injuries and was in the intensive care unit.
The driver suffered only minor injuries.
