Clorox: 37 Million Bottles Of Pine-Sol Cleaners May Contain Bacteria

A series of cleaning products that may contain bacteria are being recalled after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) found the presence of living organisms during the testing of some product samples.

Clorox Company announced Tuesday that certain Pine-Sol all-purpose cleaners may contain bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which can expose consumers with compromised immune systems to health-related risks. In its announcement, the company stated that this type of organism “can enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin.” 

Impacted products include the Pine-Sol scented multi-surface cleaners that come in lavender clean, sparkling wave, and lemon fresh scents, the CloroxPro Pine-Sol all purpose cleaners  that come in lavender clean, sparkling wave, lemon fresh, and orange energy scents, and the Clorox Professional Pine-Sol lemon fresh cleaner. 

Original Pine-Sol (Pine scent) cleaning products were not impacted .

So far, no health-related issues were tied to these recalled products. 

Potentially Contaminated Products Sold Nationwide By Amazon, Kroger

The firm confirmed that the recalled items were produced between January 2021 and September 2022. While Clorox is an Oakland, California-based company, recalled items were produced at the firm’s Forest Park, Georgia factory. 

Impacted Clorox products were distributed and sold by Dollar Tree, Sam’s Club, Amazon.com, Walmart, Target, and Kroger.  

Consumers can identify recalled items by date codes that begin with the prefix “A4” and that are followed by a five-digit number less than 22249.

Company Publishes Recall-Dedicated Website

After recalling 37 million bottles of the potentially contaminated product, the firm launched a website that offers consumers more information about the recall. Consumers can also use the website to learn more about how they should proceed to obtain a refund.
