After two accidents and one injury, Jeep recalled all 2021 through 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4XE vehicles in the United States.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these vehicles can experience a software issue that will cause the engine to shut off while driving. If this happens, the driver is more likely to crash.
Issue Behind Recall Responsible For Two Accidents, Injury
The glitch in question causes a loss of communication between the engine and the diagnostic system. The firm discovered the problem in September 2021, after receiving reports of Wranglers losing power.
So far, the firm is aware of 65 field reports, 112 customer assistance records, and 196 warranty claims associated with the software problem. The issue is behind at least two accidents and one personal injury.
In its recall announcement, the firm stated that affected consumers will be advised to schedule a visit to a dealership where the software in charge of the systems controlling the transmission control processor and the plug-in hybrid battery system will be updated. Repairs will be carried out free of charge to the car owners.
Jeep Wrangler In Troubled Waters Over Multiple Recalls
While Jeep’s latest recall is concerning, especially considering the fact that two accidents and one injury were reportedly associated to the issue at hand, this isn’t the first time the firm has recalled the latest Wrangler model.
Since its introduction in late 2021, the plug-in hybrid off-roader Wrangler 4XE has had three open recalls.
Issues associated with these recalls include unsecured fuses inside the battery, fuel pump failure, and side marker lights that can malfunction.
