GM Latest Automaker to Launch Takata Air Bag-Related Recall

Multiple news reports have been urging consumers to avoid ignoring the Takata air bag-related recalls many automakers have been launching.

Unfortunately for many drivers who are not aware of auto recalls, they often end up getting injured in crashes caused by equipment failure simply because they were never personally alerted. Consumers who own used or older cars often get recall announcements a bit too late. That’s why following the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s reports is so important.

The Takata air bag recalls that have been haunting so many Americans continue to spread.

The latest companies to have expanded their Takata air bag recalls include Volkswagen, BMW, and Daimler. Now, General Motors has joined the group.

According to a series of news reports, the NHTSA along with General Motors reported that a recall impacting Saab and Saturn vehicles tied to Takata air bags has been launched.

The recalled vehicles come with Takata PSDI-5 front driver-side air bag inflators that could explode with too much force. If that’s the case, the inflators may rupture, and the several metal parts may fly into the air, hitting a passenger or the driver. Depending on how the impact incident takes place, the victim may experience serious or even deadly injuries.

So far, at least 10 deaths have been linked to the Takata air bag issue. Over one hundred of injuries have also been linked to the defective air bag inflator. Recently, BMW, Volkswagen, and Daimler launched recalls associated with Takata air bag inflators that could explode. Now GM has added about 200,000 vehicles to the list of cars fitted with potentially defective and deadly air bag inflators, which already contains 5 million units.

The recalled vehicles listed under GM’s latest recall include the 2003 through 2011 Saab 9-3, the 2010 and 2011 Saab 9-5, and the 2008 and 2009 Saturn Astras.

Consumers should be contacted by the company about this recall, but if you have one of the recalled vehicles and you would like to know what you should do to have this issue addressed, contact the manufacturer immediately to learn more about how you should proceed to have this issue addressed.

Many automakers have been struggling to produce enough remedies for the impacted vehicles. Until all units are fixed, drivers are traveling on vehicles that could expose major injury risks.
